Islamic University of Minnesota Launches First Semester

The Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center officially commenced classes for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year (1448 AH) on Saturday, June 20, 2026, amid a distinguished academic atmosphere and comprehensive readiness across academic, administrative, and technical sectors. The university welcomed both new and returning students enrolled in its various academic programs.

The University affirmed that the beginning of the new academic year marks an important milestone in its ongoing journey of academic excellence and institutional development, reflecting its commitment to providing high-quality higher education and a stimulating learning environment that contributes to preparing qualified professionals capable of serving their communities and contributing to sustainable development.

On this occasion, Dr. Omar Ahmed Al-Maqrami, University Vice President and Head of the Main Campus, expressed his gratitude to Allah for this blessed beginning and conveyed his pride in the University's continued academic and administrative progress over recent years. He emphasized that the new academic year represents a new phase of growth, achievement, and institutional advancement, expressing his hope that it will be a year filled with success and accomplishments for the University, its staff, and its students around the world.

For her part, Dr. Zainab Ali, Deputy Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs, stated that the first day of classes reflected a high level of preparedness, organization, and institutional discipline. She praised the efforts of faculty members, administrative and technical staff, educational support teams, and virtual classroom administrators for their cooperation and coordination, which contributed significantly to a successful start to the semester.

In the same context, Dr. Osama Abdulrahman, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of the first meeting between faculty members and students in establishing a positive academic relationship. He encouraged faculty members to present themselves as exemplary educators and role models who embody the University's mission and values, particularly when engaging with first-year students, noting the lasting impact that first impressions can have on students' motivation, confidence, and sense of belonging.

Meanwhile, Dr. Norhan Salama, Dean of Faculty Affairs, extended her congratulations to faculty members on the occasion of the new academic year's commencement. She reaffirmed the University's commitment to supporting faculty development and enhancing professional competencies. She also announced a series of professional development and training programs to be conducted in collaboration with the Quality and Development Unit, aimed at strengthening academic performance and promoting best practices in higher education.

Regarding admissions and registration, Dr. Khadijah Abdulwareth, Director of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, confirmed that applications for admission and enrollment in the University's programs for the first semester are still being accepted in accordance with the approved academic calendar. She noted that the admission period will remain open for several weeks, allowing prospective students ample time to complete their admission procedures and join the University community.

It is worth noting that the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center delivers its educational services through a fully online learning system and operates on a three-semester academic calendar each year. The University comprises eight colleges offering 44 academic departments across a wide range of disciplines, including Islamic Studies, Economics and Business Administration, Sharia and Law, Computer Science and Information Technology, Media and Communication, Arts and Humanities, Development Studies, and Educational Sciences.
