Specialized Training Course on Professional Citation for Islamic Studies Research
The Research and Studies Center, in cooperation with the Dawah Center at the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center, has concluded the specialized training course entitled “Professional Citation for Islamic Studies Research.” The course was conducted in English over four training sessions as part of the university’s efforts to develop researchers’ skills and enhance the quality of academic research in accordance with international academic standards.
The course was delivered by Dr. Aziz ZaLarh Marzouq, who presented the scientific and methodological foundations of academic citation in Islamic studies research. He reviewed key standards and established methods for preparing references and citing sources, with a particular focus on practical applications that help researchers improve the accuracy and methodological rigor of their academic work.
The course targeted a broad range of participants, including researchers, faculty members, graduate students, and students working on graduation projects, as well as those interested in preparing and documenting Islamic studies research in English. The program focused on equipping participants with academic citation skills, introducing major international citation systems, and developing their practical abilities in preparing reference lists and citing sources in accordance with established academic principles.
The program consisted of four main components. The first addressed the distinctive nature of academic research in Islamic studies, while the second focused on the importance of international citation systems in developing rigorous academic research. The third introduced the Chicago Style as one of the citation systems used in fields related to the humanities and Islamic studies. The fourth component focused on intensive practical exercises on applying the system to the citation of Islamic studies research.
The course is part of a series of academic and training programs organized by the Research and Studies Center in cooperation with the university’s academic centers and units. These initiatives aim to develop researchers’ capabilities, promote a culture of rigorous academic research, and equip learners with the methodological skills needed to produce accurate, high-quality research that meets international academic standards and the requirements of scholarly publishing.
