Academic Seminar Discusses Research Proposal on Irrevocable Innovations in Divorce

The Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Islamic Studies, Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center, organized an academic seminar via Zoom to discuss the research proposal submitted by doctoral researcher Ixbirhan Sad Alam Abdulrahman, entitled "Innovative Divorce (Talaq Bid"i): Its Forms, Rulings, and Effects in Islamic Jurisprudence and Its Contemporary Judicial Applications among the Muslim Community in the Philippines: A Comparative Jurisprudential Study."The seminar was attended by the discussion committee, faculty members, and researchers.

The seminar was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Fatima Jumaa Al-Wahsh, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies. Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Tayeb Yahya Al-Tayebserved as the research supervisor, with Dr. Aya Suleimanand Dr. Mohammed Al-Sharqawiserving as members of the discussion committee.

The seminar reviewed the key scientific and methodological aspects of the research proposal. The researcher presented an overview of the study and its objectives, which focus on identifying the forms, rulings, and effects of Talaq Bid'iin Islamic jurisprudence, while examining its contemporary judicial applications among the Muslim community in the Philippines from a comparative jurisprudential perspective. The study seeks to strengthen the connection between jurisprudential foundations and judicial practice and contribute to examining and addressing a number of family-related issues associated with the topic.

The seminar featured an in-depth academic discussion between the researcher and committee members, addressing the research problem, methodology, and academic significance, as well as various aspects of its scholarly framework and jurisprudential and judicial applications. The committee also provided a number of academic observations and methodological recommendations aimed at developing the proposal and enriching its research content, thereby strengthening its ability to achieve its objectives and comply with the academic standards adopted in graduate programs.

The seminar forms part of the series of academic seminars and activities organized by the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Islamic University of Minnesota as part of its efforts to support researchers and graduate students, enhance the quality of research proposals and academic studies, and encourage research addressing contemporary Islamic legal and family issues. These efforts contribute to preparing qualified researchers capable of producing rigorous scholarly studies that enrich Islamic knowledge and respond to the needs of contemporary communities.
