College of Islamic Studies Strengthens Its Readiness for New Academic Year

As part of its preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year and in line with its commitment to enhancing academic and administrative quality, the College of Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center organized a series of academic and organizational meetings chaired by Dr. Majed Bin Obaid Al-Sulami, Dean of the College. The meetings brought together members of the College Council, faculty members, and students as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at unifying institutional vision, strengthening readiness, and preparing all stakeholders for a successful start to the new academic year.
These meetings reflected the College's commitment to fostering a culture of institutional excellence, strengthening communication between the academic administration, faculty, and students, enhancing the quality of education, and providing a stimulating academic environment that promotes innovation and excellence.
College Council Reviews Academic and Administrative Readiness
The series of meetings commenced with a session of the College Council held on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026, during which the Council, chaired by Dr. Al-Sulami, reviewed the academic and administrative readiness of the College's departments and discussed the necessary arrangements for the beginning of the semester to ensure a smooth and well-organized launch.
During the meeting, the Dean emphasized the pivotal role of department chairs in monitoring academic performance within their respective departments, strengthening communication with faculty members and students, identifying potential challenges, and addressing them promptly to maintain a stable and effective learning environment.
He also stressed the importance of academic discipline, timely delivery of lectures, early preparation of course materials, and effective utilization of online learning technologies and interactive educational resources. Furthermore, he underscored the need to adhere to University regulations governing examinations and assignments and to refrain from making any modifications to course content except through the officially approved academic procedures.
Faculty Meeting Focuses on Enhancing Educational Quality
In a separate meeting with faculty members, Dr. Al-Sulami welcomed participants and expressed his appreciation for their academic and educational contributions. He affirmed that faculty members are the cornerstone of educational excellence and that high-quality teaching begins with thorough preparation and effective organization before the start of the semester.
The meeting addressed several academic and administrative issues, including the use of the University's approved templates for lectures and presentations, the integration of modern educational technologies and interactive teaching tools, and strategies to improve the quality of academic content and increase student engagement in virtual learning environments.
Discussions also covered course management, content distribution, lecture documentation and recording, and making course materials accessible to students. Dr. Al-Sulami encouraged faculty members to establish early communication with students before classes begin by sending welcome messages and fostering a positive learning environment based on interaction, respect, and continuous academic support. He also highlighted the importance of promoting scientific research through scholarly publication and participation in conferences, seminars, and research activities, thereby strengthening the College's academic reputation and research output.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion during which faculty members presented questions and suggestions concerning curricula, academic descriptions, and technical and administrative matters. Open Meeting with Students to Support Academic Success
The College concluded its series of meetings with an open online session for students from all departments and academic levels, held via Zoom on Thursday evening, June 18, 2026. The meeting aimed to strengthen direct communication with students and prepare them for the new academic year.
At the beginning of the session, Dr. Al-Sulami welcomed both new and returning students, emphasizing the distinguished status of Islamic studies and the importance of studying them through a rigorous academic approach that combines authenticity with contemporary perspectives. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the College's distinguished faculty and specialized academic programs to develop their academic and intellectual capabilities.
The meeting introduced students to academic procedures, communication channels with faculty members, and the academic and administrative services provided by the College. Students were also encouraged to demonstrate commitment, discipline, and active participation in lectures and academic activities from the very beginning of the semester.
The session featured an interactive discussion in which the Dean answered students' questions regarding courses, academic support services, communication with instructors, and the effective use of the University's educational platforms and digital libraries. Participants also discussed several development proposals, including the provision of official University email accounts to facilitate access to international academic databases and research resources.
