Scientific Seminar Discusses Juristic Methodologies for Resolving Disputes
As part of the ongoing academic activity of graduate students, the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the main center of the Islamic University of Minnesota, in collaboration with the College of Sharia and Law and the Department of Fiqh and Its Principles, held a scientific seminar on Tuesday evening, April 21, 2026, to discuss the research proposal submitted by researcher Hamza Mohammed Abdulrahman Salam, as part of the requirements for the PhD program.
The proposal was titled: “The Approaches of Jurists in Resolving Disputes Among the Opinions of Legal Accountability: A Comparative Foundational and Applied Study of Chapter Rulings and Contemporary Legal Issues.” The study addressed the methodologies used by jurists in dealing with jurisprudential disagreements, analyzing their underlying principles and rules, and linking them to contemporary issues, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of Islamic jurisprudential reasoning in responding to modern developments.
The seminar committee was chaired by Dr. Salah Faraj, Head of the Department of Fiqh and Its Principles, and included Dr. Jumaa Al-Ashram and Dr. Ali Abdullah as members.
The session was held via the Zoom platform and featured an academic presentation by the researcher, who outlined the study’s problem statement, objectives, methodology, and key themes. This was followed by an in-depth scholarly discussion, during which committee members provided a range of observations and recommendations aimed at refining the proposal and strengthening its methodological and applied framework.
This seminar is part of the Deanship of Graduate Studies’ ongoing efforts to support academic research and encourage specialized studies that address contemporary jurisprudential issues through a sound foundational approach, contributing to the production of scholarly knowledge that bridges classical heritage with modern-day realities.
