Department of Sunnah Discusses PhD Research Proposal
The Department of Prophetic Sunnah and Its Sciences at the College of Islamic Studies, Main Center of the Islamic University of Minnesota, held a scientific seminar to discuss the research proposal submitted by researcher Mohammed Makeen Mohammed as part of the requirements for obtaining a PhD degree. The proposal is titled “Life Skills in the Prophetic Sunnah: An Applied Foundational Study.”
The study aims to derive foundational prophetic principles that underpin contemporary life skills and link them to practical application, highlighting the comprehensiveness of the Prophetic methodology and its relevance across different times and contexts.
The discussion committee was chaired by the Head of the Department, Dr. Majed bin Obaid, and included Dr. Abdullah Hassan Mhidayat as academic supervisor, along with Dr. Etimad Ajeeb and Dr. Abu Al-Ezz Al-Faqi as members.
During the session, held on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026, via video conferencing, the committee praised the originality of the topic and the researcher’s ability to bridge classical Islamic foundations with modern skill requirements.
The researcher presented the significance of the study in offering an authentic Islamic perspective on social and personal skills derived from the Prophetic Sunnah, emphasizing its potential to contribute to both individual development and societal advancement.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the committee provided a set of methodological recommendations aimed at strengthening the research content and ensuring high-quality outcomes. They also noted that such applied studies represent a valuable addition to contemporary Islamic scholarship and serve both the academic community and practical needs.
