Deanship of Graduate Studies Holds Ph.D. Defense on the Design of an Intelligent Medical Robot

The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Main Center of the Islamic University of Minnesota held the doctoral dissertation defense of researcher Abdullah Waddah Al-Dhubati Al-Mutairi, from the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence within the College of Computer Science and Information Systems. The dissertation was entitled: “Designing an Intelligent Medical Robot for First Aid in Disaster Environments Using Deep Learning and Autonomous Navigation.”

The research presented an innovative design for an intelligent medical robot capable of providing first aid services in disaster and emergency environments by utilizing deep learning technologies and autonomous navigation systems. The proposed model aims to enhance the speed of emergency response while reducing the risks faced by rescue teams operating in hazardous conditions.

The dissertation committee was chaired by Dr. Bushra Sharif, Chair of the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Islamic University of Minnesota. Associate Professor Dr. Yasser Al-Malik Ahmed Suleiman served as the dissertation supervisor, while Dr. Othman Al-Agha participated as the internal examiner and Dr. Malek Jawarna as the external examiner.

The defense was conducted on the evening of Saturday, May 23, 2026, via the Zoom platform, with the attendance of faculty members, researchers, and specialists interested in artificial intelligence and modern medical technologies. The session featured an in-depth academic discussion addressing both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the research and its potential scientific contributions.
