Scientific Seminar Discusses Syrian Political System Transformations
As part of its engagement with contemporary political issues, the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the main center of the Islamic University of Minnesota, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Political Science, held a scientific seminar on Wednesday evening, April 22, 2026, to discuss the research proposal submitted by researcher Iyad Najeeb Al-Yousef, as part of the requirements for obtaining a PhD degree.
The proposal was titled: “The Syrian State and Transformations of the Political System during the Period (2000–2025).” It presented an analytical study of the trajectory of political transformations in Syria over recent decades, with a focus on the structure of the political system and its internal and external interactions, as well as the changes it has undergone amid regional and international developments.
The seminar committee was chaired by Dr. Khaled Mohammed Atiyah, Head of the Department of Political Science, and included Dr. Hind Mahrous Mohammed and Dr. Imad Al-Din Hussein Bahr Al-Din as members.
The session was held via the Zoom platform and opened with an academic presentation by the researcher, who outlined the general framework of the study, including the research problem, objectives, methodology, and key themes. This was followed by an in-depth scholarly discussion, during which committee members provided a range of observations and academic recommendations aimed at refining the proposal and enhancing its research value.
This seminar is part of the Deanship of Graduate Studies’ ongoing efforts to support high-quality research addressing current political issues and to encourage analytical studies that contribute to understanding regional and international transformations from a rigorous academic perspective.
