Academic Seminar Discusses "The Rhetoric of Silence and Unsaid in Poetry of Al-Sharif Al-Radi"
As part of its commitment to supporting scientific research and advancing linguistic and critical studies, the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the Islamic University of Minnesota - Main Center, represented by the College of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, held an academic seminar session to discuss the research proposal submitted by researcher Abdulrahman Fadhi Al-Mutairi, as part of the requirements for the Master’s degree. The proposal was titled: "The Rhetoric of Silence and the Unsaid in the Poetry of Al-Sharif Al-Radi: A Rhetorical Pragmatic Study."
The research proposal addressed a specialized topic in the field of rhetorical studies, aiming to analyze the meanings of silence and the implicit dimensions within poetic discourse, as well as exploring its pragmatic aspects in the poetry of Al-Sharif Al-Radi. This reflects the depth of rhetorical structure and the multiplicity of interpretive levels in Arabic literary texts.
The session witnessed notable academic attendance, with the participation of a specialized scientific committee chaired by Dr. Osama Abu Zaid, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, and including Dr. Mai Baklizi, Dr. Tamer Al-Qazzaz, Dr. Taher Fayez, and Dr. Saad Mohammed Atiya. The committee provided rich scholarly feedback, including methodological and critical remarks aimed at improving the research proposal and strengthening its academic direction.
The seminar was held on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2026, via the Zoom platform, and witnessed active and fruitful academic interaction among participants, reflecting the growing interest in Arabic rhetoric and pragmatic studies.
This session is part of the Deanship of Graduate Studies’ ongoing efforts to support researchers and encourage specialized studies that contribute to the development of linguistic and critical knowledge, while keeping pace with modern approaches in discourse analysis.
